The short answer
Start from the question people in the community are already discussing, then check the rules and the context before proposing any content. If the brand cannot make the answer clearer or more useful, do not take part.
Three things to check first
- Topic: is the discussion directly about the problem the brand solves?
- Rules: what kind of contribution is allowed, and is disclosure or a specific format required?
- Context: are people looking for information, sharing an experience or asking for after-sales help?
Why the rules come first
Platforms have general rules, and each community can add its own set by its moderators. Reading the local guidelines is the first condition for avoiding content that is off-topic or unwelcome.
When to stop
Stop when the discussion is unrelated, the rules do not allow it, or the reply would only repeat a sales message. Not posting is better than showing up in a way that costs trust.
